Emily Speaks at BIO International Convention

Wondering where in the world is Emily this week? She can be found in  sunny San Diego, CA, where she will be participating in two sessions for the 2017 BIO International Convention.

The BIO International Convention: The Global Event for Biotechnology is a mega-affair, with 16,000 attendees from 76 countries interested in a range of topics from biofuels to cell biology to genetics to personalized medicine.

Here’s a picture of one of the key note addresses from this year’s event – a chat with former U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron.

First on Emily’s agenda is participating in a session called “Attracting Disease Foundation and Social Impact Investment to Drug Development.”

As traditional funding sources for drug development can only stretch so far, this panel will explore a range of alternative product development funding models to attract philanthropic, disease foundation and social impact investment to advance promising preclinical and clinical science for product candidates or conditions that are otherwise not commercially viable.

Emily will discuss the unique funding models Emily’s Entourage is using to generate interest and accelerate the pace of drug development for rare nonsense mutations of CF. Her remarks will cover the organization’s first foray in venture philanthropy with the launch of the CF gene therapy company, Talee.

Next up, Emily will be participating on a panel called “Understanding the Patient Voice: Three Unique Perspectives on Healthcare.”

Together with esteemed patient advocates Liz Kennerley and T.J. Sharpe, Emily will share her personal journey with Cystic Fibrosis, and her viewpoints on the healthcare system more broadly. Moderated by OncoMed Pharmaceuticals’ Chairman and CEO Paul Hastings, a fellow patient advocate himself, the group will share their perspectives on what it means to be a patient and how they are advocating in their own unique ways to achieve a common goal; bringing new treatments to the patients who need them most and doing it quickly.

Follow along as Emily shares snapshots from the conference on Instagram stories (@EmilysEntourage).
