Emily is Featured Speaker at Stanford’s Medicine X Conference Sept 28 [VIDEO]
Heads up everyone! Emily’s thrilled to be a featured “ignite” speaker at Stanford School of Medicine’s influential Medicine X conference on September 28, 2013.
Emily’s talk, “The Networked Patient: A Collaborative Approach to Resuscitating Healthcare” is scheduled for Saturday, September 28th 4:05-4:10 pm PDT (5:05-5:10 MDT | 6:05-6:10 CDT | 7:05-7:10 EDT).
Medicine X, a catalyst for new ideas about the future of medicine and healthcare, is a great way for Emily to reach a global audience. As a featured “ignite” speaker, an influential 5-minute time slot in this highly respected conference, her role is to stimulate thought and action among conference attendees and online viewers. Emily hopes to use her story to further her vision of empowered patients (especially those with chronic illnesses) as essential players on their own healthcare teams.
Drawing upon her first-hand experience as a patient with Cystic Fibrosis, Emily explains how her active participation in the CF community exclusively online (due to cross infection risks) contributes to her empowerment as a patient and the success of her healthcare. “I’m on a mission to use my experience to help make healthcare better—for everyone,” she says.
At Medicine X, Emily is also giving a 20-minute breakout session presentation – “An ePatient Manifesto: Prescribing Participatory Medicine to Improve Healthcare” – scheduled for Saturday, September 28 from 11:35-11:55 am. This presentation won’t be available via livestream, but we’ll post a link to footage afterwards.
Emily’s “ePatient manifesto” panel presentation includes a more detailed explanation of what participatory medicine looks like and does from her perspective as a bioethicist, healthcare marketer, fundraiser and especially as an empowered patient. It will also explore the potential moral, social, political and economic value of a future shift toward more fully participatory medicine.
