EE Board Member Spotlight: Rachael Packer
We are very excited to continue “The EE Board Spotlight Series,” which highlights different members of the Emily’s Entourage Board of Directors. What better way to really get to know our Board members than by providing the random, funny, interesting and revealing information that you just don’t find in a formal bio paragraph. Today, we are thrilled to spotlight Rachael!
Last TV show I watched: General Hospital
Last song I listened to: Sugar by Maroon 5 (totally wish my wedding could have been featured in that video- I asked my husband if we could get married again just to dance to that song!)
Something most people don’t know about me: I’m an open book pretty much, so there is very little mystery with me. You get what you see!
My favorite gift I’ve ever received: My husband and my boys. They push me to be a better person each and every day. They are my world!
My first job: Scooping ice cream at the Whistle Stop in Enola, PA.
My favorite quote: “We all create the person we become by our choices as we go through life. In a real sense, by the time we are adults, we are the sum total of the choices we have made.”
My favorite vacation destination: Italy! My favorite place on the weekends in the summer- Rehoboth Beach or Ocean City, Maryland.
My favorite food: Pizza- I could, and would, eat it every day!
If I was stuck on a deserted island with only one item, it would be: A really good long book.
My role model (and why): I do not have one specific role model. I have been blessed to be loved and supported by so many people. I am the person who I am today because of those people and I would not be where I am in this world without them.
My best friend would use the following 5 phrases to describe me:
1. High Energy
2. Driven
3. Non-stop
4. Caring
5. Crazy
At EE, I work on: This past year I had the privilege of working on the EE gala. I look forward to planning and organizing more fundraising events for EE.
My connection to Emily’s Entourage: My connection to EE happened somewhat randomly through a Passover Seder. I had the privilege of meeting Emily and some of her family that night. I was awed by Emily’s story and passion for life. Most importantly, it was never just about her, it was always about the CF community as a whole. Her passion and drive for life amazes me.
The most rewarding aspect of being a part of Emily’s Entourage: Knowing that we can truly make a tremendous difference in the CF community.
My vision for Emily’s Entourage is: To help in finding a cure for CF.
The part of Emily’s Entourage that most excites me: Knowing that we are making a difference and that people and organizations are starting to see EE’s impact on the research world.
Anything else to add?
I thought this was an amazing quote for Emily and EE: She would rather light candles than curse the darkness, and her glow has warmed the world. (Adlai Stevenson, about Eleanor Roosevelt)
Stay tuned to meet another fabulous Board member tomorrow and keep following our blog for more Spotlights in the coming months!
